Jewish learning is a lifelong journey.

Temple Beth Shalom’s Adult Learning program offers a rich and welcoming space for Jewish learning, led by Rabbi Richards. Held in person in our Beit Midrash (and on Zoom) on Thursdays, we offer short series exploring Jewish texts, ideas, and traditions in an engaging and accessible way—whether you’re new to learning or have been studying for years.

Schedule of Current Classes:

• Intro to Midrash: August 13, 20, 27, and September 3rd-Join us to discover the fascinating world of Midrash as we explore the rabbinic method of interpreting our Torah texts.
• Weekly Torah Study: Every Saturday following Kiddush-Join us each week as we explore the Torah portion and its enduring relevance for our lives and our community.

Family Torah School

At Temple Beth Shalom, our Family Torah School is more than just a classroom—it’s a joyful, engaging, and inclusive space where Jewish identity takes root and flourishes.

From TK through 7th Grade, students experience Jewish life through dynamic learning.  Stories, music, games, crafts, and hands-on traditions bring Judaism to life.  Grounded in whole-child learning, our curriculum helps students build Jewish knowledge, engage in meaningful practice, explore values and spirituality, and feel a true sense of connection within a caring community.

As the only Conservative synagogue in the Greater Long Beach area, Temple Beth Shalom offers a unique educational experience for families seeking depth, warmth, and connection on their Jewish journey.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Families enrolled in Family Torah School are invited to take part in our vibrant youth and family programming throughout the year.

Tot Shabbat

A joyful Friday evening Shabbat experience for families with children 0–7.  Includes songs, prayers, stories, and a community dinner. Older siblings are welcome.  Dinner is generously sponsored by a donor.

Ruach Shabbat

A spirited, music-filled Shabbat morning service designed for families, featuring singing, prayer, Torah reading, a brief sermon, and a community Kiddush luncheon.

Havdallah Night

A Saturday night program celebrating the close of Shabbat.  While parents enjoy a date night, children participate in youth-group–style activities.  Past themes have included Glow Party, Superheroes, Paint Night, and LEGOs.
